Christine Kovner RN, PhD, FAAN


Christine Kovner is a Professor at the College of Nursing, New York University (NYU) and a Senior Fellow, Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing also at the College, and Attending in Nursing at the NYU Langone Medical Center. She is on the executive committee of NYU's Clinical Translational Science Institute.  

Dr. Kovner maintains an active research program involving studies on quality improvement, RN working conditions and the cost of nursing care. She is the principal investigator of two grants from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to study the career trajectories of newly liscensed registered nurses over the first ten years of their careers. Professor Kovner is the co-author of Financial Management for Nurse Managers and Executives, now in its 3rd edition, has published numerous peer-reviewed articles, and served as a grant reviewer for government and foundations. In addition to being the Senior Associate Editor of Policy, Politics, & Nursing Practice, she serves as a reviewer for many health-related journals. Dr. Kovner is an advisor to government and private sector. For example, for nine years she was a member of the New York State Hospital Review and Planning Council. Currently, she is on the Steering Committee for New York's Nursing Workforce Center and on the Advisory Council on Policy for the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International.

Dr.Kovner earned her baccalaureate degree in nursing from Columbia University, her master's degree from the University of Pennsylvania and her PhD from NYU. She completed a three-year post-doctoral fellowship funded by the National Center for Health Services Research and Health Care Technology and was a senior Scholar at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.
